CWJC is a ministry of WMU and was created to help move women in economic need to self-sufficiency by providing them with the hope, dignity, and support they need to learn new skills in a Christian environment. These women are empowered through a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a Christian woman. This relationship is supported by weekly Bible Study and prayer, which sets it apart from other mentoring programs. How Can You be Involved?
Who is eligible to participate? CWJC is available to women in the Work First program of Gaston County. Work First: Work First is a program of the Department of Human Services. Work First is a welfare reform program that was built on the premise that all persons have a responsibility to their families and communities to work and provide for their children to the best of their ability. Mentors: Mentors are required to attend mandatory training, participate in weekly Bible study with participant, offer one-on-one support and encouragement, help with accessing job training and educational resources, help address issues of childcare, transportation, housing and more, and help network with church and community resources. |
